Description
Art in State Buildings commissions original artwork for Vermont state buildings and public spaces. The Vermont Arts Council administers the program in partnership with the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services. Commissions are tied to state building and facility projects undergoing construction or renovation, and calls to artists are issued for specific sites.
Established in 1988, the program aims to improve the character of state buildings, make employees’ workplaces places of distinction and enjoyment, and support Vermont artists. Artwork is developed for its site, with project-specific goals set out in each call. The program has commissioned work by more than 60 artists for 36 state-owned buildings and public spaces.
