Research must be undertaken at a hospital, university department, or research institute in Australia or Aotearoa New Zealand.

The scholarship was established in 1987 with funds from the Arthur Wilson Memorial Foundation, created following a public appeal to commemorate the obstetrician and gynaecologist. Selection considers research merit, the applicant’s development, supervisory support, project feasibility, and potential contribution to women’s health.
