Artistic Projects is administered by Chamber Music America (CMA) with support from The Howard Gilman Foundation. It funds small chamber music ensembles and presenters bringing creative projects to audiences across New York City’s five boroughs. Supported genres include contemporary and traditional jazz, classical, and world music. CMA defines chamber music as music for two to ten musicians, with one musician per part, generally without a conductor.
The program prioritizes meaningful community impact: expanding access, fostering appreciation for chamber music, and connecting ensembles and presenters with current and new audiences. Projects may highlight cultural richness, build community collaborations, encourage dialogue about social or cultural issues, or make recordings and videos available beyond the grant period. Interdisciplinary projects must also function as stand-alone chamber music works.
