Description
Artists in Schools is a Vermont Arts Council program supporting quality, multiday arts experiences with Vermont teaching artists in residence. It encourages collaboration among schools, youth, artists, and arts organizations through projects typically lasting three to ten days within a school or district. Residencies may engage students in classrooms, schoolwide projects, or accessible after-school programs.
The program supports experiential learning that helps students express ideas, build confidence, develop arts and non-arts skills, and connect with artistic processes and their communities. Projects can integrate dance with mathematics, mentor student writers, support original music composition, explore empathy through theater, or document community stories through murals and exhibits. Priority goes to projects led by Vermont artists and artists on the Council’s Teaching Artist Rosters, though non-rostered artists may also lead funded projects.
