    Description

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) runs the Arts Center Residency at its Arts Center on Governors Island. The program provides free, collaborative space for creative development and production across visual, performing, and literary disciplines. It serves as an incubator for research, experimentation, ongoing development, and dialogue among artists whose practices engage the social, environmental, and civic dimensions of a changing world.

The 2026 eight-month residency focuses on projects at the intersection of art and climate. Residents receive individual workspace, a materials stipend, and access to two rehearsal studios, while participating in Open Studios, Climate Week, and other LMCC programming. A new partnership with Stony Brook University and Seaweed City expands the residency as a platform for sustained climate inquiry across artistic and academic disciplines.
