Maine Humanities Council’s Arts & Humanities Grants support innovative Maine-based community projects with well-developed arts and humanities components. Projects may include exhibitions, conferences, film or video productions, podcasts, radio shows, discussions, and performances framed by interpretation. The program seeks strong participation from artists and topic experts, community partnerships, and broad public outreach, especially to new audiences.
Humanities content invites participants to deepen their understanding of human culture and lived experience through interpretation, analysis, or discussion. Projects must demonstrate inquiry, nonjudgmental discussion, a balance of critical and celebratory perspectives, and a range of viewpoints consistent with MHC’s nonpartisan mission. Organizations serving or led by communities traditionally under-resourced in the arts and humanities are encouraged to apply.
