Description
The Rhode Island Foundation’s Arts in Academics Grants support educational projects that integrate art disciplines into other core academic subjects. Endowed in 2004 by retired Rhode Island art educator Karel Greenblatt Gertsacov, the fund encourages collaboration among artists and educators and makes the arts an integral part of learning for Rhode Island public school children.
Projects may include an architect and math teacher helping students explore scale through model-building, an academically focused zoo trip studying symmetry, or professional training that helps teachers incorporate arts literacy into other subjects. The program emphasizes meaningful arts integration, creativity, practicality, educational merit, and academic excellence rather than performances in which students participate only as audience members.
