The Giving Back Fund, administered by the ASABE Foundation, supports practical projects that share agricultural and biological engineering knowledge and skills with underserved individuals or groups. Projects may involve building, designing, planning, teaching, or other assistance with tangible evidence of the work undertaken. Eligible efforts may take place anywhere in the world, with no geographic preference in selection.
The fund supports one or more projects annually. Its humanitarian engineering awards have supported accessible urban agriculture, irrigation and educational materials, and safe school playgrounds. Selection considers how engineering skills benefit others, the project's impact and cost effectiveness, the team’s characteristics, and the quality of the submission. Projects with an expected life of at least five years receive preference.
