Description
The ASCO Clinical Oncology & Research Experience (ASCO CORE) is run by ASCO and funded through Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation. It introduces medical students to oncology through immersive shadowing experiences involving cancer topics, research, and patient care. Participants select either the Clinical Oncology Experience, focused on direct oncology-related patient care, or the Research Experience, focused on clinical oncology-related research. Both tracks may take place in private practices, hospitals, or academic settings.
Each participant works with a mentor who oversees the experience and provides academic and career guidance. The program also brings participants together at the ASCO Annual Meeting to build peer relationships and interact with oncologists across career paths and subspecialties through topical roundtable discussions.
