The ASCO Clinical Oncology & Research Experience (ASCO CORE) is designed to introduce U.S. medical students to the field of oncology through direct mentorship, shadowing, and research opportunities. Participants select either a Clinical Oncology Experience—focusing on patient care—or a Research Experience—focusing on oncology-related research. Each participant is paired with a mentor for academic and career guidance. The program includes mandatory attendance at the ASCO Annual Meeting for orientation and networking, followed by a mentored rotation and a Virtual Showcase where students present their work. The goal is to deepen understanding of cancer care, research methodologies, and the realities of oncology in diverse medical settings.
