The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) support postdoctoral and advanced research in humanities fields aligned with the NEH’s mission and resources. Relevant fields include Greek language, literature, history, archaeology, philosophy, and art, from pre-Hellenic times to the present. ASCSA must serve as the fellow’s primary research base, although research may take place throughout Greece.
The program emphasizes clear, coherent projects with the potential to make important and original contributions. Particular consideration goes to research for which ASCSA resources unavailable at the applicant’s home institution make residence in Greece substantially beneficial. These resources include the Blegen and Gennadius libraries, research centers at the Athenian Agora and Corinth excavations, and the Malcolm H. Wiener Laboratory for Archaeological Science.
