Key Information: Applicants must be American or Canadian graduate students or postdoctoral scholars with assigned excavation material for primary publication.
The Susan I. Rotroff Research Fellowship, administered by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA), supports scholars assigned to produce primary publications of finds from excavations in Greece. Research may concern any period, from prehistory to the present. Preference is given to work on ceramic finds, but other classes of artefact are also eligible.
Established to honor Susan Rotroff’s friendship, generosity, and mentorship, the fellowship aims to encourage rigorous scholarship, support for students, and kindness to colleagues. It funds the research needed to study excavation material and prepare it for publication, including travel, research assistance, illustrations, and archaeometric analyses. Publication planning is central to both the application and the recipient’s final report.
