The Mark Frankle, MD, Health Care Policy Award, offered through American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), develops knowledge and leadership in health care policy and political advocacy. Dr. Frankle founded the award to cultivate a new generation of orthopaedic advocacy leaders who can improve access to high-quality shoulder and elbow care. Its priorities include safer care systems, patient and caregiver involvement in health care design and delivery, and understanding health care initiatives through quality, costs, outcomes, and patient safety.
The award supports a fellowship in the AAOS Washington, DC office, connecting policy learning with Capitol Hill visits, government relations, and national orthopaedic leadership meetings. Recipients participate with the ASES Political Advocacy Committee and share their fellowship efforts and accomplishments with the membership through presentations at the ASES Annual Meeting.
