The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) PJI Research Grant provides supplementary research funds or support for pilot studies intended to lead to larger foundation or government grants. The program supports any aspect of scientific study affecting the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of shoulder prosthetic joint infection. Proposals are reviewed by the ASES Research Committee.
Previously supported work illustrates the breadth of this focus: studies have examined the virulence and detection of Cutibacterium acnes, contamination reduction during total shoulder arthroplasty, rapid infection detection using a bio-nanosensor, antibiotics in cement beads, and blue light therapy to reduce bacterial bioburden.
