The Association for the Sociology of Religion (ASR) awards Gallagher Travel Grants annually to help members attend its Annual Meeting and present research. The program supports international scholars and doctoral students living outside the United States and Canada, as well as eligible U.S.- and Canada-based doctoral students and early-career scholars. Support covers conference-hotel accommodation and, for international participants, a contribution toward airfare.
Awards are distributed among several leading applications based on the quality and contribution of the proposed papers. The International Liaison Committee evaluates applications and recommends recipients, while the Program Committee makes final funding decisions. Among equally strong papers, priorities include first-time attendance, historically underrepresented groups, international research records, and applicants facing greater travel costs or limited support for international conference travel.
