The ALS Association’s Assistive Technology Grants accelerate the development of innovative technologies and the adaptation of existing technologies that help people with ALS communicate, move, breathe, and perform daily activities. The goal is to maintain independence and improve quality of life for people with ALS and their caregivers while work toward a cure continues.
The program supports technology development, efficacy testing, and scale-up evaluation—not exploration and discovery. Projects should offer a unique or highly differentiated solution, have a strong scientific rationale, and present a clear commercialization path. Technologies serving a broader customer base are also suitable when they provide important benefits for people with ALS. The Association expects technologies to become commercially available within three to five years after award completion.
