Atiyah UK-Lebanon Fellowships support mathematicians through visits for study, research, teaching and collaboration, advancing their work and fostering exchange between colleagues in the UK and Lebanon.
Funder: London Mathematical Society
Due Dates (Anticipated): January 2027 (Annual application deadline)
Funding Amounts: Up to £8,600: £2,000 for travel and £6,600 for accommodation and subsistence
Summary: Fellowships support mathematical study, research, teaching and collaboration through visits between the UK and Lebanon.
Key Information: UK-to-Lebanon applicants must be established mathematicians; Lebanon-to-UK applicants must be advanced MSc/PhD level or above.
The London Mathematical Society (LMS) operates these fellowships with the Centre for Advanced Mathematical Sciences (CAMS) at the American University of Beirut. Established in memory of Sir Michael Atiyah, the scheme supports mathematical exchange between the UK and Lebanon, enabling fellows to further their study or research and interact with colleagues in the host country.
Established UK-based mathematicians may visit Lebanon for research and teaching, normally at CAMS. These visits can include thematic semester-long activities, lectures and advanced courses, with particular emphasis on engaging advanced students. Mathematicians connected with Lebanon may visit UK academic institutions for study, research or collaboration. Selection emphasises mathematical excellence or promise, productive interaction with host mathematicians, and the benefits of the proposed visit.
