    Description

The Dorothy M. and Earl S. Hoffman Scholarship is administered by the American Vacuum Society (AVS) through its National Student Awards competition. It recognizes and encourages excellence in continuing graduate studies in sciences and technologies of interest to the Society. Selection emphasizes excellence in research and academic record, with research presentations to the Awards Committee forming part of the finalist review.

Established in 2002, the scholarship is funded by a bequest from Dorothy M. Hoffman, AVS President in 1974 and a longstanding contributor to the Society. It continues her commitment to student education and training in topics of interest to AVS members. The scholarship combines recognition of graduate achievement with cash support and reimbursed travel to the Society’s International Symposium.
