Description
The Sheila Essey Award for ALS Research recognizes an individual who has made significant research contributions toward identifying the cause, prevention, and cure of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Funded by the Essey family through the American Brain Foundation, it is presented in partnership with the ALS Association, the ALS Network, and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN).
The award supports the recipient’s continued ALS research while honoring recent major scientific impact, long-term scientific impact, and overall influence on the field. Review considers innovation, scientific integrity, academic excellence, and contributions that fill gaps in understanding ALS. It also recognizes scientific citizenship, mentorship, professionalism, and inspiration for future generations.
