    Description

The Association for Women Geoscientists (AWG) offers the Sand Student Research Presentation Travel Award to help women geoscience students share their research at the Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America. The award helps defray travel, lodging, registration, and other expenses associated with presenting the recipient’s research at the meeting, rather than funding the research itself.

The award honors Virginia (Ginny) Sand (1928–2007), an award-winning geoscience teacher and world traveler who taught at Kent State University for three decades. Sand supported AWG and served as editor of its publication, Gaea, from 1988 to 1991.
