Description
The Brownfield Area-wide Revitalization (BAR) Planning Grant Program is administered by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Office of Community Development. It supports comprehensive implementation plans for neighborhoods, districts, corridors, downtowns, waterfronts, and other areas affected by multiple brownfields. Rather than treating properties individually, the program connects strategies for assessing, cleaning up, and reusing sites with revitalization of the surrounding area.
Supported planning combines community participation, analysis of existing conditions, market studies, and feasibility analyses to develop practical implementation strategies. Expected outcomes include priorities for brownfield cleanup and reuse, priorities for public and private investment, and an advisory or steering committee representing community members, private-sector participants, regional organizations, and other stakeholders.
