    Description

The Barlow Endowment for Music Composition at Brigham Young University supports the creation and premiere of new musical works through its General and Latter-day Saints commissions. These programs fund collaborations between composers and performers who already have an agreement to develop a new piece. Both competitions are international and accept any musical genre or performance locality.

The Endowment encourages applicants from varied musical aesthetics and backgrounds, without preferences for musical style or performance venue location. General commissions and Latter-day Saints commissions are separate competitions, distinct from the Barlow Prize. The Latter-day Saints category serves composers who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Awards support the composer’s fee rather than the broader costs of producing or presenting the work.
