Description
The South Carolina Arts Commission’s Barrier-Free Arts SC program combines professional development, accessibility planning, and grants to help arts organizations make their facilities and programs more accessible to constituents and artists with disabilities. It is a three-year commitment. In the first year, participating organizations attend the Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability (LEAD) Conference, take part in cohort learning, complete organizational accessibility audits, and present plans for removing barriers.
In Years 2 and 3, grant support shifts to carrying out the goals in those accessibility plans. Organizations that successfully complete the cohort can become Barrier-Free Arts SC-designated organizations, pursue ongoing grant funding for accessibility work, and mentor incoming participants.
