Description
Barrier-Free Arts SC (BFASC), administered by the South Carolina Arts Commission (SCAC), is a three-year program helping arts organizations prioritize accessibility for constituents and artists with disabilities. It combines arts-sector professional development, organizational accessibility audits, planning, and funding to remove barriers in facilities and programs.
Year One supports attendance at the Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disability (LEAD) Conference and compensates staff participation in required training and cohort meetings. Organizations complete SCAC-funded audits provided by Able SC and develop an accessibility plan, presented at the Spring Convening and Showcase. Years Two and Three fund improvements directly aligned with that plan. Priority goes to organizations located in, or proposing activities within, SCAC’s Opportunity Initiative counties.
