    Description

The Basic Training Program (Long-term) is a six-month residential program offered by the Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Urawa, as part of its 2027 teacher-training programs. Held in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, it is designed for non-native Japanese-language teachers early in their careers who currently teach outside Japan. The program combines Japanese-language study, basic teaching methodology, and learning about Japanese culture and society.

Participants are grouped according to a placement examination upon arrival. Language classes develop practical proficiency, while methodology classes use trial teaching and reflection to help participants identify and address teaching challenges. Cultural activities, planned field trips, and interaction with classmates deepen understanding of Japan and other cultures. Special classes and individual guidance for trial lessons are also provided.
