This opportunity funds excellent investigator-led research spanning the full scientific remit of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). Projects may address fundamental or applied questions in biosciences—including research on plants, microbes, animals, humans, and the development of underpinning tools and technologies. The scheme supports a broad range of activities, such as research projects, technology development, equipment, infrastructure, research networks, and summer schools. Multidisciplinary proposals are encouraged, provided the main focus is within BBSRC’s remit. International collaboration is possible through specific schemes (e.g., with Brazil, Luxembourg, or the US), but only UK-based researchers at eligible organisations may apply as leads.
