Description

The Beckman Scholars Program, administered by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, supports independent research by full-time undergraduates at accredited four-year U.S. colleges and universities. Institutional awards support six Scholars, selected two per year, through continuous laboratory research spanning two summers and the intervening academic year. Research must focus on chemistry, biochemistry, biological and medical sciences, or interdisciplinary combinations of these fields.

The program combines sustained research with mentorship that develops Scholars intellectually and prepares them for graduate-level research and scientific leadership. It supports research presentations, publication, communication skills, and professional development. The Foundation encourages institutions to recruit students with varied pathways into STEM, including those who have faced financial obstacles or lacked early STEM resources or role models, and to provide welcoming, respectful mentoring environments.
