The Berkeley Law Foundation (BLF) awards year-long fellowships to recent law graduates and new lawyers developing public interest legal projects. Projects serve legally disadvantaged or politically underrepresented groups and promote systemic change through legal advocacy, community education, and/or policy change. BLF supports work throughout the United States, not only in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The program provides seed funding for new projects or advances established work, with results achievable within one year. BLF currently prefers projects affiliated with established public interest organizations, which can provide supervision, community connections, and supplemental financial or in-kind support. Its mission emphasizes access to justice, dismantling systemic inequalities, and diversifying the public interest legal profession.
