The Georgia Ornithological Society (GOS) administers the Bill Terrell Graduate Research Grant to support graduate students conducting ornithological research under faculty direction. The program supports a broad range of studies of birds and their habitats, including movement, nesting success, population dynamics, and responses to environmental change.

Highest priority goes to research on ecosystem function; habitat use, quality, and management; conservation of birds and habitats; federally and state-listed species; and invasive species. Previously supported projects include studies of urbanization in American White Ibises, climate-related changes in songbird nest predation, King Rail habitat use in restored wetlands, and Whimbrel roost use during migratory stopover.
