The Billie M. Levy Fellowship is administered by the University of Connecticut Library, Archives & Special Collections. It supports travel for scholars, researchers, and artists whose projects require work in the Northeast Children’s Literature Collection. The collection holds more than 100 archives of notable children’s authors and illustrators associated with the Northeast and East Coast of the United States, alongside over 40,000 volumes of children’s literature.
The fellowship supports significant projects exploring children’s literature as an art form and the creation of books through collaboration among authors, illustrators, agents, editors, designers, and publishers. Particular consideration is given to projects using the papers of Francelia Butler, Marc Simont, Esphyr Slobodkina, Cyndy Szekeres, or Ed Young. Support comes from the Billie M. Levy Travel and Research Grant fund, established in 2002 through private gifts honoring Levy, a librarian, teacher, collector, and founding donor.
