The Robert and Ina Caro Travel / Research Fellowship is an annual program of Biographers International Organization (BIO), honoring the Caros’ work and their emphasis on the importance of place in understanding character. It supports biographers with works in progress who need to visit archives or locations significant to their subjects’ lives.
The fellowship aims to help authors produce deeply researched, context-rich biographies. Its focus is on setting as more than background: exploring where a subject lived or worked can illuminate that person’s feelings, motivations, and character. Funded travel may advance a book proposal, a chapter, or completion of the work. The fellowship also welcomes non-print biographies, including documentary films.
