This program provides financial contributions to the provinces of Ontario and Quebec to support their independent forensic laboratories in conducting biology casework analysis, including DNA identification, in aid of criminal investigations and prosecutions. The program’s primary goal is to enhance the operational capacity of these labs, decrease case backlogs and processing times, and increase the number of DNA profiles submitted to the Crime Scene Index of the National DNA Data Bank (NDDB). The initiative is a key part of Canada’s strategy to ensure efficient and effective forensic analysis in support of public safety and justice.
