Description
Formas funds this call through Biosociety, a research and innovation programme for a circular bioeconomy. It supports work using raw materials from forests, fields and water to reduce fossil dependence, strengthen resilience and competitiveness, and increase value from resources while minimising negative effects on climate, nature and health.
Projects choose between primary production and industrial processes. Primary production work may address fossil inputs and fuels, extreme weather, pests, disease or societal disruptions. Industrial projects may improve circular resource use, residual-stream utilisation, biomass diversification, logistics or critical processes. Projects should advance technology, markets and/or sustainability and create conditions for scaling up or wider dissemination. AI, digitalisation, automation and electrification are welcomed but not required.
