Description
The Black Hawk Excellence in Education Fund is a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin that uses private charitable resources to support local schools, teachers, and students. Founded in 2005, it supports educational programming not typically funded by tax dollars, helps offset state funding cutbacks, and gives teachers and students opportunities to explore creative ways to teach and learn.
The fund encourages innovative educational programs, recognizes and rewards outstanding achievement, and strengthens local business, civic, and community investment in schools. Its recent awards have supported individualized computer-based learning, early literacy technology, inclusive student athletics, and a reading mentorship project. A committee of community volunteers operates independently of the school district, raises funds, and determines annual grant awards.
