Description
The Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIGP), administered by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), provides federal funding for the construction, renovation, and maintenance of boating infrastructure facilities dedicated to transient recreational vessels at least 26 feet long. The program aims to enhance public access and improve amenities such as boat slips, docks, piers, fuel stations, restrooms, and related infrastructure that support safe and accessible boating for large, non-trailerable recreational vessels traveling for up to 15 days.
BIGP offers two funding tiers:
- Tier I (State): Competitive within Minnesota, with maximum federal funding of $300,000 per year.
- Tier II (National): Nationally competitive, with awards up to $1,500,000 per project.
Applicants must provide at least 25% of the total project cost as a non-federal match. All funded projects must remain open to the public and comply with federal and state requirements throughout their useful life.
