Bodtker Grants are administered by the Danish American Heritage Society and named after its founders, Arnold and Edith Bodtker. The program supports scholarly and creative research into Danish heritage and the Danish American experience. Projects may take historical, genealogical, artistic, literary, or culinary approaches, with funding primarily supporting research travel within North America, Denmark, or other Danish-related sites.
Research at major Danish American archives is particularly encouraged, including the Danish American Archive and Library in Blair, Nebraska; the Danish American Archive at Grand View University; and the Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn, Iowa. The program connects funded research with the Society’s journal, The Bridge, through articles related to recipients’ projects. In some cases, funding can also support publication or translation subvention if the work can be excerpted in the journal.
