Description
The Body-Worn Camera Grant Program provides financial assistance to South Carolina state and local law enforcement agencies, the Attorney General’s Office, solicitors’ offices, and public defenders’ offices. It supports initial camera purchases and replacement, as well as the ongoing maintenance and storage costs associated with body-worn camera recordings. Agencies may apply annually for new purchases and yearly maintenance and storage expenses.
The South Carolina General Assembly funds the program through state appropriations. The Department of Public Safety’s Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP) administers the grants, and the South Carolina Public Safety Coordinating Council approves the distribution of funds. Applications distinguish between law enforcement and legal professionals, with separate requests for reimbursement and new purchases.
