    The Boren Awards for International Study provide substantial funding for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to pursue immersive language study and research abroad in world regions and languages critical to U.S. national security. Funded by the National Security Education Program and administered by the Institute of International Education, these awards aim to build a workforce with advanced language and cultural skills for public service careers. Eligible applicants can propose their own overseas study program or apply for a Regional Flagship Language Initiative in select languages. All recipients must commit to a period of federal government service following completion of their funded program.
