The BPOC Graduate Excellence Award at the University of British Columbia recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who identify as Black or as a Person of Colour. The award is designed to honor research excellence and scholarly achievement while addressing systemic barriers faced by BPOC students in graduate education. Preference is given to domestic and incoming research Master’s students, but awards are open to both Master’s and Doctoral students across eligible research-based programs.
Funds are allocated to disciplinary Faculties and graduate programs, which then recommend recipients and award amounts to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The minimum value of each award is $1,500, but actual award amounts may be higher depending on faculty/program allocations.
