Description
This funding opportunity from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) aims to support high-impact, patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) projects. The Broad Pragmatic Studies announcement encourages robust studies—such as randomized controlled trials, cluster trials, or well-designed observational studies—that generate evidence relevant to patients, clinicians, and other healthcare stakeholders.
For the 2027 cycle, special areas of emphasis include:
- Optimizing cancer treatment and symptom management
- Advancing prevention, care, and treatment for serious mental illness
- Improving mental health and substance use outcomes for pregnant and postpartum populations

All proposals must demonstrate meaningful engagement of patients and other research partners throughout the research process, in alignment with PCORI’s Foundational Expectations for Partnerships in Research. Applicants may also propose structured mentorship activities and request coverage for patient care costs.
