Description
The Broadband Acceleration Grant (BAG), run by the Kansas Department of Commerce, funds broadband infrastructure construction to address connectivity gaps across Kansas. The program focuses on economically distressed counties and targets areas unlikely to receive broadband service without state or federal funding support. Its central priority is infrastructure buildout, including last-mile, middle-mile, and line-extension projects.
Launched in 2020, BAG is intended to bridge the digital divide through an $85 million investment over 10 years. Broadband modernization funding comes through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program (IKE). Eligible applicants include political subdivisions, business entities, nonprofits, and other entities authorized by state law to provide broadband services.
