Description
Bronx Recognizes its Own (BRIO), administered by the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA), recognizes individual Bronx artists who demonstrate proficiency, knowledge, and sustained practice in their artform. Supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs Greater New York Arts Development Fund, the program provides direct support across literary, media, visual, and performing arts. It highlights previously unknown voices, recognizes quality artistic practice, and fosters connections between artists and their communities.
BRIO combines recognition of artistic achievement with community engagement through Artists for Community Enrichment (ACE). These one-time public service activities can include performances with audience questions, workshops, and classes. They give recipients additional visibility while helping Bronx residents experience the borough’s artistic talent.
