The Brownfield Redevelopment Grants program, administered by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), supports the investigation and remediation of properties in Michigan with redevelopment potential. The program provides funding to determine contamination status, conduct due care, and undertake cleanup activities at sites identified for specific redevelopment projects. Projects are prioritized where the anticipated economic or environmental benefits of redevelopment exceed the grant amount. Importantly, funds cannot benefit parties responsible for the contamination, ensuring that public resources are directed toward responsible and impactful community redevelopment.
