Description
The Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program funds work at abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial, commercial, and institutional properties where hazardous substances or petroleum complicate redevelopment. Eligible work includes cleanup, acquisition, demolition—including hazardous-material removal—and the minimum on-site infrastructure needed to make a brownfield operational for economic development. The program also covers eligible projects in designated Brownfield and Coal Mine Priority Investment Areas.
Projects are selected through a merit-based process considering economic benefits to the county, surrounding counties, and state; geographic distribution; readiness to begin; and local support. The department prioritizes projects offering the best return on investment for Ohio.
