Summary: Supports in-situ research and conservation action that directly advance conservation of night monkeys (Aotus spp.).
Key Information: Applicants must be current ASP members affiliated with an institution that can receive and oversee the funds.
The American Society of Primatologists (ASP) supports in-situ conservation of night monkeys through the Brumback Aotus Research Grant. Projects must make a clear, direct contribution to conservation of species in the Aotus genus through research or conservation action. Both students and professionals are encouraged to apply, and ASP encourages members to support collaborators from habitat countries in developing proposals.
The program addresses threats including habitat loss from agricultural expansion, cattle ranching, logging, conflict, and mining, as well as the bushmeat and pet trade. Its Conservation Committee assesses conservation value alongside research feasibility and relevance, with education benefits and local involvement considered where included. The grant recognizes ASP member Roger Brumback, who described Aotus brumbacki.
