Description
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs, offers this formula grant to state governments. It supports statewide programs providing partial loan repayment assistance to local and state prosecutors and local, state, and federal public defenders.
States receiving funding administer their programs through agencies designated by their governors and solicit applications from eligible prosecutors and defenders. Selected beneficiaries must commit to an additional three years of qualifying service as a prosecutor or public defender. Loan repayments go directly to each beneficiary’s loan service provider.
