Summary: Bursaries support qualified researchers and technicians undertaking overseas conference travel, international research collaboration, or fieldwork.
Key Information: Applications must be submitted before the proposed trip; Society Council members are ineligible.
The Mineralogical Society of the UK and Ireland awards these bursaries to support academic work through attendance at overseas conferences and meetings, international collaboration involving research of high merit, and fieldwork. Applications are welcomed from qualified researchers, including technicians. The scheme is separate from the Society’s postgraduate student bursaries for young researchers.
Awards are considered in one annual round. A subcommittee of Council, chaired by a vice-President and including the chairs of the Society’s special interest groups, assesses the likely academic benefits of proposed activities. The Awards Committee makes the final award decisions. If applications exceed available support, preference is given to Mineralogical Society members.
