Description
The Butterfly Fund at East Tennessee Foundation supports pediatric oncology research, treatments, and services. The Barger and Harrill families established the fund in August 2008 in memory of their daughters, Emily Barger and Maddie Harrill. Both girls were diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare childhood cancer, in 2007 and died just weeks apart during the summer of 2008. The fund honors their memory by raising awareness of and funds for childhood cancers.
Supported work may include research and clinical trials, treatment supplies and equipment, and palliative care programs. The fund also supports family assistance for pediatric oncology patients and their caregivers, along with training and outreach for patients and medical support staff. Its focus brings scientific research, treatment resources, and patient and family services together within a childhood cancer mission.
