Description
The South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs (OHSJP) administers Byrne SCIP in South Carolina. The program supports state, local, and tribal efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence, with particular attention to gun violence and the factors that can lead to it. Funding must implement an actual program within the state’s SCIP priorities.
Those priorities include drug, mental health, and veterans treatment courts; behavioral health deflection and crisis response; and law enforcement-based programs, training, and technology. The State Crisis Intervention Advisory Board encourages projects emphasizing youth gun violence prevention within these priorities.
