Key Information: Researchers and educators worldwide may apply; U.S. institutional affiliation is not required.
The Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT) supports projects that advance humane, human-relevant, and responsible science through its Reduction and Humane Education Grants. The program gives equal weight to animal protection and scientific advancement, seeking improvements in scientific quality while reducing reliance on animals in research and education.
The Reduction Grant funds rigorous analysis of existing published evidence to assess animal models’ reproducibility, translational value, or scientific validity. Where feasible, projects are encouraged to compare animal models with human-relevant methods. The Humane Education Grant supports animal-free teaching and training resources for veterinary and medical education, as well as education on animal-free New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). Broadly applicable projects and transferable educational resources with strong dissemination and adoption potential receive preference.
