Geological Survey supports a Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit partner in developing science, data, and tools for energy, minerals, water security, infrastructure, and natural hazard preparedness.
Funder: U.S. Geological Survey
Due Dates: December 7, 2026 (Applications, 11:59 p.m. ET)
Funding Amounts: $1–$200,000 per award; $200,000 total anticipated for one two-year cooperative agreement
Summary: Supports synthesis of methods for evaluating adaptation actions and their effectiveness for natural resource management.
Key Information: Only participating partners of the Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit are eligible.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), through its National and Regional Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs), supports research on the effectiveness of adaptation actions. This opportunity focuses on synthesizing analytical approaches, identifying challenges and successes in evaluating biophysical efficacy, and recommending ways to advance adaptation-effectiveness research. The CASCs will convene researchers and federal and state natural resource managers from across the country.
The work responds to managers’ questions about how environmental conditions and hazards—including droughts, floods, and wildfires—affect management strategies. Outcomes should provide actionable science for resource decisions, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government spending, support local and state hazard preparedness and resilience, and inform stewardship of lands and waters. The selected recipient will work closely with USGS scientists under a cooperative agreement.
