The Giovanni Armenise-Harvard Foundation’s Career Development Award helps outstanding early-career basic scientists establish independent laboratories in Italy. It supports researchers currently working outside Italy who wish to relocate, develop a novel research area at an Italian host institute, and make significant contributions to the biological sciences. The program also encourages Italian research institutes to strengthen their departments by offering attractive packages that draw strong candidates.
Supported research has spanned neuroscience, plant biology, biochemistry, immunology, cancer biology, proteomics and genetics, synthetic biology, and stem cells. The award combines support for a scientist’s independent research program with a host institute’s commitment to facilities, scientific independence, mentoring, and career development.
